As noted above, this team photograph was taken for the 1903-1904 season. The following year, in October 1905, The Newark Sunday Call wrote, ” One of the fastest amateur basketball teams in Newark this season is that wearing the colors of the Newark Y.M.C.A. Never before in the history of the local five has the material been of such a high class. Six members of last year’s team – Long, Spaulding, Stager, Vreeland, Pollard and Jones – are back in the game this Fall.

Vreeland and Myers, who have been captain and manager respectively of the Y.M.C.A. teams since their inception, will again be at the head, while Director Smith, as coach, will have general charge.”
