This peaceful view of Branch Brook Park shows the park in its early days. Well groomed flower beds, gravel paths and an openness (lacking in the now overgrown park), welcomed people to pause for a moment and relax. Many period post cards of the park show either landscapes devoid of people, or very busy scenes with people shown in various forms of exertion. I was drawn to the utter tranquility of this solitary person reading a letter as if he were the only person in Newark.
