The Sussex Avenue/First Regiment Armory was the venue for this musical celebration held on May 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th, 1916. They had quite a varied program over the course of those four days. The first day had American composers, followed on subsequent days by a children’s concert,, opera, a symphony, etc. The final night, Tri-City Night, included choral groups from Newark, Paterson and Jersey City, three industrial cities at their peak. The music, while varied, was mostly what modern audiences would deem “Classical”. Contemporary accounts all mention that the performances were packed, with attendance numbering in the thousands.
