As Calvin Coolidge famously said, “the chief business of the American people is  business”. This was especially true in Newark- New Jersey’s largest city. The stores in Newark were well stocked and offered everything  from hardware to corsets. John Deegan Exclusive Footwear was located on Halsey Street near Central Avenue. As the name of the establishment  indicated they dealt in high end footwear which they sold in a rather posh downtown shop. The site of the shop is currently a surface parking lot.
