I have previously told the story of the Clifton Art Pottery . Although the company was in business for many years they made art pottery for only six years. In 1911, they switched production to porcelain wall and floor tile.
Today I received two new pieces of Clifton pottery. Red clay bodies with black and beige decoration based on Native American design motifs. The pots are quite small and clearly are decorative not utilitarian. I did an internet search to see if I could learn anything I had not posted previously. As it turns out, the Metropolitan Museum of Art has a Clifton Art Pottery vase in their collection. That sure made me smile.
