Most current Newarker’s, myself included, know this intersection as the location of the Riviera Hotel. However, at the turn of the last century the area was full of the large homes of the well to do. This post card shows this district at the height of its reign as Newark’s premier residential district. Both sides of High Street appear to have mansions as far as the eye can see and horse drawn carriages are meandering up the street with no automobile in sight.
