Kresge’s Department Store circa 1925

This grand building was built by Kresge’s after they purchased the L.S. Plaut department store. Plaut was a hodge podge of 19th century commercial buildings that had been cobbled together. Kresge demolished that and in its place rose the splendid building that stands to this day between Cedar Street and Raymond Blvd. Take note that the “ditch” where Raymond Blvd. now is was the soon to be defunct Morris Canal. On the other side of the canal was the United States Post Office and Courthouse. The reason I bought the card was the message written on the back by an employee of the store. Rather than paraphrase , I have reproduced the back of the card in its entirety.
