Delaware Lackawanna Station and the Westinghouse Factory

One has only to look at this card to understand what made Newark great- transportation and industry. The Westinghouse Electric and Mfg. Co. Newark Works and the beautiful and almost new train station clearly portray, in bricks and mortar, a city on the move. A job for whoever wanted one, Newark was the place to be. The work was hard and the hours long but there were opportunities just the same in this thriving town. People knew this and they came. Coal miners from Pennsylvania , Southern Blacks and many others heard Newark’s call. It is alsowestinghouse

worth noting that not only were the large factories and companies hiring but so were many smaller factories which abounded in Newark at the time. Add to this mix a vibrant retail environment and yet more job opportunities. As the slogan said: “Newark Knows How”.
