Among the many keepsake items produced for Newark’s 250th Anniversary in 1916 this six sided tile stands out. The manufacturer of this commemorative item was the Mosaic Tile Company of Zanesville, Ohio, founded in 1894, by Karl Langenbeck and Herman Mueller. This particular tile looks like Wedgewood. Wedgewood ,was the English pottery company that was known for producing cameo like decorative relief against a blue background. The Mosaic Tile Company ceased operation in 1967.
So, while not a Newark manufacturer, this Ohio company still gets honorable mention for this most attractive tile.
