This badge was for an employee at the Westinghouse Electric Company located at 95 Orange Street in Newark. The badge is functional, sturdy , attractive and well suited to its function. What amazes me most is that decades after its creation the design of the badge still has a contemporary feel. As with any good design it defies its age.
As for the actual building, the first section of the factory was completed in 1884 and eventually the plant occupied four and a half acres with 400,000 square feet of space. At its peak there were 3,000 employees, one of which owned this identification badge. The plant was closed in 1983. The building was demolished in 2007/08.
